Juice cleanse: Day 3

Oh day 3, I must be completely bi-polar. I woke up today feeling totally motivated and ready to get my juice on. After breakfast I totally felt like I love doing this. But when I think back to yesterday, I wanted to shoot myself. Not sure if the food at dinner time helped me out or if it was just a "day 2 of no eating" got to me thing. Breakfast and lunch have been easy and I've had NO cravings today. I'm still debating on whether or not I'm going to eat a dinner tonight. If I do, I won't feel like I've failed and if I don't, well then I'll probably just think I'm pretty bad-A for doing (or not doing) so.

For the past 4 weeks I've been battling one cold after another. It's like I alllllmost get better, and then BAM! Hit with another cold. So I need to totally boost my immune system and decided this morning for breakfast to have a strictly vitamin C juice. And it was so good. Just oranges and a handful of pineapple. So good. Soooo good.

Day 3:
Breakfast

10 oranges
1/4 pineapple

Lunch

(green juice from day 1. See here)
Add a handful of kale as well and an extra cucumber

Dinner

Protein and veggies with a side of left over green juice.

Juice cleanse: Day 2

Day 2... this is stupid. So glad I didn't designate a certain amount of time otherwise, I'd feel like a failure. But because I said no set amount of time, I feel accomplished. If I can do at least one more day, I've accomplished a 3 day cleanse. Pat on the back for this no self-control girl. I may keep going but do juices throughout the day (2 meals a day), mixed with whole fruits, and protein and veggies for dinner. That sounds like the smarter path to me.

Day 2

     Breakfast
(same as yesterday's dinner)

Lunch

3 green apples
3 stalks of celery
2 medium carrots
1/4 of a pineapple
1/2 lemon
2 inch nub of ginger (peeled)
BIG handful of spinach
Dinner

Dinner...ah dinner...Alright, I totally caved and cheated and ate an actual dinner tonight. I had protein and veggies, and it was delicious, and I'm not even a little bit mad about it. As I mentioned before, I think I'm going to juice for 2 meals, eat a lean, clean, dinner. I'm totally satisfied with that. I mean c'mon, who in their right mind skips every meal and replaces it with juice? Lez-be honest, that's just stupid. I'm not going to sugar coat a cleanse like this. It sucks. I find it extremely difficult. I'm not some super human who can ignore cravings and hunger pangs...or is it pains? Either way, they over power me. Maybe some of you have more self control, but heck, I do not. So here's to juicing at least twice a day :)

Juice cleanse: Day 1

To help me ease into my cleanse, I started replacing meals with juice a few days ago. I feel jumping right into eating nothing and drinking only juice would be difficult and challenging. I replaced Sunday dinner, and Monday breakfast. Today I only had a serving of eggs and 2 big mason jars of juice. By tomorrow I should feel comfortable enough to cut out all solid food and indulge myself in some sweet, sweet juice.
I don't know about you, but I'm new to this whole juicing thing. I haven't done much experimenting with it and am just hoping for the best as I throw my produce in the juicer. I try to use fruits and veggies that I think would compliment each other and taste good together. So far, my 2 juices have been delish. I didn't want it to have an overbearing veggie taste as I began my detox, because I know it'd put me off and I wouldn't follow through with the cleanse. So I've made my juices more on the fruity side but will slowly start adding more veggies in to make my juices 70% veg/ 30% fruit.

Here's day 1. I had a small breakfast because I wasn't at home to juice, but juiced for lunch and dinner. The juice is surprisingly very filling and I've felt satisfied this whole day.
I'm making juice for 2 people, myself and my mother-in-law. So cut the recipe in half or keep as is and just store your extra juice for "snacking." Each recipe makes about 4-6 cups of juice total. I keep my juice in large mason jars and seal them as tight as I can. Also, try to not "prep" too far in advance. You'll lose nutrients by doing so. You can wash and store, just don't peel and cut. Also, try to drink your juice daily so you can get as many of the nutrients while it's still fresh.

Day 1:
Lunch

1/2 pineapple
4 oranges
8 tangerines
4 celery stalks
2 carrots

Dinner

2 apples
2 pears
3 celery
3 baby cucumbers
2 big handfuls of spinach

Quick-ie

Quick, small, update. I have decided that I am going to combine my food blog with my personal "monthly" blog. Not that I get much traffic at either site, but for me, it's just easier to only have to worry about updating one blog. I will be re-posting my old recipes here though so I have reference to them.
Now with that said, for those of you who do not know, the Salvesen's will be relocating in 3 weeks. The hubby has been living with his friend for the past month and yesterday we were just approved to move into our apartment that we've been wanting. So, we can FINALLY be reunited. This whole long distance thing totally blows and I'm over it. March 19 can't come soon enough!
And because we will be moving to a sunny, beachy, area, I've been more motivated than ever to get back in shape. I've found myself eating when I'm bored, eating because it's there, and always craving junk. My body needs a total reset, that's why I decided to do a juice cleanse, and document it. I haven't decided on a set amount of days I'll be doing it for though. I feel that when I put a time limit on these kinds of things, I feel pressure to HAVE to do it and always cave in and never make it to the end. So I'm going to just take it day by day and see how it goes.

If anyone feels they're up for the challenge, you can follow along with me. I'll try to post recipes/menus daily.

A little catch up

Okay, I figured 3 months is long enough to wait to update everyone on our lives, right? So here's what's been going.

WARNING: Extremely long post

November
All I can remember for the month was Thanksgiving. It was a great one! Almost my whole family was here for it. My sister and her fam drove all the way from Texas and my parents traveled from CA. We spent the day at my grandparents (like always) and devoured some delicious, mouth watering food.

December
My brother-in-law flew in from Austrailia to spend the last of the holidays with all of his family (we're all here in P town). It was great to see him again and loved seeing him with Mr. E. they become great little buddies.
Then came Christmas. I did a crapload of crafting and loved every second if it. Except for the part when I had to clean up all that glitter, that stuff will be the death of me.

We took ev sledding Christmas Eve and he really, really, really disliked it. We probably shouldn't have started from the top of the hill...whoops. But he did fall in love with this little red sleigh thing my sister-in-law let us borrow. He pulled that thing all around.

That night we were supposed to go to our family's house for a nativity play but I got so sick! It was such a bummer. Christmas morning came and started off late, I'm not complaining though. I think we finally opened presents at 11 am. Mr. E could have cared less about opening his gifts. He tore one piece of wrapping paper and was over it. So it wasn't as eventful as I thought. Maybe next year.

Then came New Years eve. We spent it with my sister-in-law, and our good friends. We played games, ate food and drank...sparkling apple cider of course.

My sister, so kindly, took our family pictures for us while she visiting over Thanksgiving. Loved the way they turned out. Taking pictures with a toddler is really hard.

January
More family came to town to visit. My father-in-laws sister and her son and his friend flew in from South Africa to surprise him for his 70th birthday. We had a house full of family for quite awhile and it was awesome. I loved getting to meet and get to know more of Conryd's family. They're all such amazing people. And I just love to be surrounded by family. It makes for great company. We showed the out of town-ers what Krispy Kremes were all about. And a trip to Park City. I guess those are 2 neccessites when visiting here :)

Two weeks in to the new year, all of the visitors left and the house felt so empty. It's always hard the first few days to adjust when guests leave.

And I guess this now gets us caught up with today. Yesterday I dropped the hubby off at the airport to go spend 3 weeks in Florida. Yes, you read right, THREE WEEKS! I'm already dying and it's only been 24 hours.
This is where my husband gets to call home for the time being... (not that exact spot, but you know, in an actual house)

If you're wondering what he's doing out there, let me fill you in as best as I can.
We still haven't heard great news back from PT schools, so we're starting to look and explore new possibilities of where life can take us. The hubby's best friend produces his own music and has gotten quite busy with his work. He asked Conryd if he'd be interested in coming to work with him doing media updates for his "band," I'm not quite sure if you call it a band it artist or music maker or whatever, and also do office management type stuff. So we've sent the hubby out there to test trial it for a few weeks and that also gives us time to hear back from schools.

So that's about it for us. Will probably do another update when we finally find out what we are doing with our lives.

So long October

Wow, is it seriously November? I cannot believe how fast this year has gone. It's crazy. I'm not complaining, but just in awe over it. October was a pretty fun month. We had way more activities going on than we normally do in like a years time. Mid month the hubby and his good friend ran a zombie 5k. They chose to be zombies and got to "chase" the humans for 3.1 miles. Everyone loved their make up and costumes. It was like they were famous zombies, getting stopped and people asking to take pictures of them. Proud wife right here :)
Hubby's on the right, the zombie surgeon

Then came the adventure to the pumpkin patch. It was actually kind of disastrous. Mr. E wanted nothing to do with the pumpkins and EVERYTHING to do with the wagons. Maybe next year?

That next night, Riverwoods was having some Halloween market thingy. They had bounce houses, craft booths, a teeny tiny animal petting cage, and free pumpkin spice cupcakes. That was probably the best part of it all.

Next came Halloween. I wanted to do something cute as a family because I figured this year would maybe be my last year where I get a say/choose what I wanted Mr.E to be. I'm assuming next year he'll be old enough to maybe decided what he wants to be, and because he's a boy, it'll probably be lame and boy-ish :) We dressed up as the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and the Queen of Hearts. And let's just say, I'm crafted out...at least until a week or so before Thanksgiving, and then I'll have to kick it up a notch and get stuff done for Christmas, whoa, yes, I did in fact just mention Christmas. Anyways, back to Halloween. Mr. E was a champ trick-or-treat-er. He learned quickly to knock on the door, reach his cute little hand into the bowl of candy, grab a handful and put all of it back except for one piece and put in his jack-o-lantern. And then he'd run off to the next house and repeat. Too cute, but after about 45 minutes, we all had enough and called it quits.

The last event, that I guess technically counts as November because it just happened this Saturday, was another zombie 5k. I did this one, along with my sister-in-law and her husband, and her sister-in-law and her husband, and the same friend that did the first race with hubby earlier this month. And we were the ones being chased by zombies...down the canyon...at sun set. And the zombies were all BYU track team members. So yeah, they were fast. And we even had a 5 minute head start. Sadly, 4 of the 7 of us were "infected" while 3 lucky ones survived.

(missing 1 of the survivors)

Now I'm ready to get my turkey on and set up my Christmas tree. Peace out October, see you in 2013.
